With the breakthrough and innovation of intelligent lighting core technologies such as LED driver, Zigbee transmission and WiFi gateway, the output value of intelligent lighting market will continue to increase in the future. It is expected that LED intelligent lighting will enter an explosive growth stage from 2014 to 2015.
However, industry experts said that the future industry scale of the lighting industry will be reduced from 500 billion yuan to 450 billion yuan, and the number of leading enterprises to be cultivated will be reduced from 10 to 30 to 10 to 15. Guan Zhenyuan, technical marketing manager of Marvell, a leading lighting company, pointed out that the intelligent lighting market has not yet ushered in an outbreak due to factors such as cost and industry standards not being unified. Guan Zhenyuan said that at present, various solutions in the entire lighting industry are mixed and the quality is uneven, which makes many customers unable to distinguish their advantages and disadvantages, which seriously affects consumers' trust in smart home products. At the same time, there is no standard in the industry, and the country has not yet introduced relevant policies, which is also the key reason for the uneven lighting products. Because the intelligent lighting system is relatively complex, the correlation between the systems is large, and the probability of problems increases. The lack of after-sales service will seriously affect the customer's satisfaction with intelligent lighting products.
Although the market has encountered various bottlenecks, it has not yet ushered in a real outbreak, but thanks to the advantages of safety, energy saving, comfort and high efficiency, smart lighting can be expected in the fields of home and office, and replacing traditional lamps will be the general trend. Guan Zhenyuan further stated that the key to driving the explosion of the intelligent lighting market is price cost and customer experience.
Addressing cost challenges, a highly integrated chip solution can reduce peripheral components, reduce bill of materials and save size while improving product performance. Marvell has a digital signal interface on the LED driver chip with smart dimming, which can directly accept digital signals from the wireless remote control, and is easy to control while further streamlining the interface lines. Guan Zhenyuan revealed that Marvell plans to introduce a single chip that integrates LED driver and 3.3V power supply this year, further simplifying peripheral circuits and reducing costs.
At the same time, the popularity and promotion of smart lighting, the customer experience is also particularly important. Marvell leverages the leading edge of the communications field to bring together gateway ODMs and cloud software service providers to work together as ODMs for lighting. The underlying communication technology foundation that determines product performance is integrated with the upper-layer applications that affect user experience, and an intelligent lighting ecosystem is built. Provide a full range of solutions for brand customers to help LED lights ODM/OEM achieve the best customer experience. It is worth mentioning that, compared to Philips' lighting product Hue, Marvell “ZigBee + WIFI†solution solves the problem of RF distance and flexibility, providing consumers with a better experience.
Guan Zhenyuan emphasized that from the perspective of the entire market, the cost problem has gradually improved. In a year or two, not only will the overseas market develop, but the domestic market will also expand rapidly. According to a report by the Industrial Technology and Trend Research Center of the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute, the LED market in Greater China will reach $11.1 billion by 2015. The analysis agency also predicts that the global LED lighting output value will reach 65.8 billion US dollars in 2020, the market prospect is broad, and intelligent lighting is promising!
