CEVA Launches 5G New Wireless Enhanced Mobile Broadband IP Platform PentaGTM

CEVA, a leading global provider of signal processing IP for smart and connected devices (NASDAQ: CEVA), has announced the launch of PentaG™, a comprehensive 5G intellectual property (IP) platform designed to support enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB). PentaG is compliant with 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) Release 15 and can be upgraded to Release 16. It is aimed at smartphones, fixed wireless access devices, and various embedded systems, enabling high-speed services such as 4K video streaming, augmented reality, virtual reality, autonomous driving, and home broadband. Built on CEVA’s two decades of expertise in developing DSP platforms for 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE modems, PentaG leverages proven technology that has been widely adopted by top-tier semiconductor companies and smartphone manufacturers. To date, over 8 billion handsets powered by CEVA's DSP have been shipped globally, underscoring the company’s strong industry presence. Mike Demler, Senior Analyst at Linley Group, remarked, “5G brings unprecedented performance, coverage, and reliability, set to transform global communications. CEVA’s PentaG modular design combines specialized IP with advanced platform products and the latest machine learning capabilities, offering an innovative approach to tackle the complexity of 5G eMBB.” PentaG represents CEVA’s most advanced baseband architecture, addressing the performance and technical challenges of 5G while delivering a complete solution for its customers. The platform features a highly configurable modular design, including dedicated scalar and vector DSP processors, enhanced 5G instruction set architecture (ISA), coprocessors, accelerators, and other essential IP blocks. An innovative AI processor improves performance for link-adaptive workloads by up to 8x compared to traditional software methods, while dedicated coprocessors and accelerators like vector MAC units (VMUs) reduce power consumption by up to 50% under common workloads. Michael Boukaya, Vice President and General Manager of CEVA’s Wireless Business Unit, said, “The 5G standard presents significant challenges for wireless designers to build efficient and powerful modems. PentaG is designed to overcome the limitations of traditional LTE architectures, offering both high performance and flexibility for customers to integrate with their existing technologies.” PentaG fully supports 5G eMBB use cases, including standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes, as well as millimeter wave and sub-6 GHz applications. It offers a peak data rate of up to 10 Gbps and supports advanced technologies like Massive-MIMO, beamforming, and complex link adaptation schemes. The platform includes several key IP blocks, such as the Enhanced CEVA-XC4500 DSP with 5G ISA extensions, the 5G AI Processor, Vector MAC Units (VMUs), the CEVA-X2 DSP cluster, and Polar and LDPC Encoder/Decoder Accelerators. These components work together to deliver superior performance and efficiency in 5G modem designs. PentaG also provides a complete hardware and software development environment, including an FPGA-based development board, allowing customers to quickly implement 5G software and accelerate product development. With its modular architecture, customers can combine PentaG components with their existing technology for differentiated solutions and faster time-to-market. CEVA offers licensing for the full PentaG platform or individual components, which can be integrated via standard interfaces into modem designs.
