According to the Japanese media nikkei news, Apple has ordered a foldable organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel for Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. for 70 million iPhones.
Sources familiar with the iPhone design supply chain revealed the size of the order, which is consistent with the estimation of David Hsieh, senior director of IHS Markit Research. Hsieh said that Samsung will become Apple's sole OLED supplier because it has the most advanced technology in this field.
Hsieh said: "Apple has ordered 70 million OLED panels from Samsung this year, and Samsung is preparing up to 95 million OLED panels for Apple to prevent iPhone sales exceeding expectations."
Samsung Electronics declined to comment, saying it could not disclose the customer's order.
In addition, industry experts familiar with iPhone design said that all three iPhones will have wireless charging and waterproof capabilities.
