TE releases COMFORT + standard ultrasound component products

More than ten years ago, TE released a breakthrough ergonomic cable design. This is the new COMFORT cable. It has changed the ultrasound imaging market and become the industry benchmark with its more flexible and softer features. It fully takes into account the needs of physicians and sonographers, its cables have excellent flexibility, lighter weight and lower torque requirements while providing high-density signal and power transmission, reducing the number of imaging probes during ultrasound examination Fatigue operation. The advent of this product has been welcomed by professionals in the imaging industry because it brings value to the end user-sonographer, and it provides a new ergonomic standard compared to traditional cable design.

Today, now, TE is introducing another breakthrough technology-COMFORT + standard ultrasound components (Figure 1). This high level of ultrasound components provides ultrasound OEMs with modular services and rapid time to market. It applies the pre-terminated standard microwave fine coaxial connector to the COMFORT cable structure.

With the COMFORT + component, there is no need to insert a circuit board between the coaxial thin wire terminal and the circuit board controlled by the system interface or probe. The coaxial thin wire terminal is directly placed in the microwave micro coaxial connector, and the connector is directly placed in the system Interface or probe control circuit board (Figure 2). By increasing the shielding coverage of the terminal area, the electromagnetic shielding performance of these microwave micro coaxial connectors is very good. The removal of the integrated circuit board will greatly shorten the time to market of the product, reduce the materials, and simplify the production process. Therefore, the price of COMFORT + components will be more competitive.

The 16-strand ribbon coaxial wire of the COMFORT + module uses a standard TE 42AWG (American Wire Gauge), 75 ohm resistance, and a 0.1 Ampere central ampacity. These ribbon cables are used to build standard product attributes, with 128 to 192 signal lines and up to 32 auxiliary lines (Figure 3).

The following table describes the TE standard product attributes. The standard 84-inch (213 cm) overall component length can be adjusted according to customer specific requirements. The break-out length between the cable opening / terminal and the nearest microwave micro-coaxial connector ranges from 1 to 6 inches (2.5-15.2 cm). The pitch of these microwave micro coaxial connectors is 0.4mm. COMFORT + is fully compatible with TE's various ZIF connectors.

COMFORT + component structure uses standard micro-wave coaxial connectors. These reliable connectors have a low profile, allowing designers to adopt a more compact design at the system end and probe end of the assembly. In addition, its plug-in mate / demate life is greater than 30 cycles, enough to meet the needs of testing and assembly. The 20-bit and 35-bit connector modules provide a variety of design options for the system and the probe end circuit board. Due to the standard microwave micro coaxial connector, TE uses a semi-automated terminal production process to improve production stability and product quality, while reducing labor costs.

Electrical specifications, working voltage: 100-200VDC, frequency: 1-20MHz. Long-lasting, pre-designed design that reduces tension. Mechanical specifications: Cable tension life is greater than 250,000 cycles. Keying, it is well combined with the machine on the PCB surface. Comply with RoHS and REACH specifications, the component protective sleeves are in classic white or customized colors.
