Soft starter energy saving principle - Solutions - Huaqiang Electronic Network

The motor is an inductive load, meaning the current lags behind the voltage. Most electrical appliances fall into this category. To improve the power factor, a capacitive load must be used for compensation, typically through a capacitor or a synchronous motor. Reducing the motor's excitation current can also help increase the power factor. This is the principle behind the HPS2 energy-saving function, which lowers the voltage during light loads to reduce the excitation current and thus improve the cosine of the phase angle (COS∮). In energy-saving mode, the soft starter automatically adjusts the motor voltage based on current feedback when the load is low. This helps reduce the excitation component of the motor current, improving the power factor. Unlike traditional contactor bypass systems, this feature is not available in domestic soft starters. The TPF switch offers two reaction times for the energy-saving function: normal and slow. The energy-saving operation mode works automatically, with both reaction speeds (normal and slow) supporting efficient performance. Under no-load conditions, this system can save up to 40% in energy, while under load, it still achieves around 5% savings. This function enhances efficiency without compromising performance, making it a valuable feature for energy-conscious applications.
