Signed a sapphire automated inspection tool distribution agreement with Intego

GT Advanced Technologies announces an exclusive distribution agreement with Intego GmbH, which allows Extreme to market and sell Intego's sapphire automated inspection tools, including Intego SIRIUS plate inspection tools and sapphire cover inspections under development tool. These new inspection tools are expected to increase the production of sapphire ingots and increase the material throughput during the inspection process, thereby reducing the production and processing costs of sapphire materials for a range of applications.

In addition, by linking the inspection data of the plate structure to the downstream computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool, the inspection tool can achieve a comprehensive tracking of the material. These tools are expected to benefit today's LED manufacturing industry and help promote the production of high-volume, cost-sensitive applications such as protective screen materials for mobile and touch-screen devices. The company did not disclose the specific terms of the agreement.

The SIRIUS Sapphire Inspection Tool was developed by Intego in collaboration with the Extreme Design team, utilizing the capabilities of the sapphire development facility at Salem, Mass. Using advanced sapphire inspection techniques and optimization algorithms, SIRIUS tools can quickly provide an optimized core or sapphire sheet material structure and transfer this structure to CNC machine tools. Once fully developed, the sapphire screen inspection tool is expected to perform two- and three-dimensional inspections of sapphire screens and sapphire windows to help shape and track each material in all downstream production steps. Extreme will use its global service and support resources to provide comprehensive support for the field application of these tools.

Intego, based in Erlangen, Germany, develops automated line inspection systems for a wide range of industries including solar, LED, automotive, plastics and medical technology.
