Global chip sales increase by the largest month-on-year in three years in May

According to the latest data released by the Semiconductor Industry Association on Tuesday, sales of personal computers and servers may be slowing, but chip sales growth in May was faster than at any time during the past three years.

According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, global chip sales reached US$24.7 billion in May, up by 4.6% from US$23.62 billion in the previous month, and an increase of 1.3% from US$24.4 billion in May 2012, setting an industry record. The biggest month-on-month increase since March 2010. So far this year, global chip sales have increased by 1.5% over the same period in 2012. All monthly sales figures are compiled by World Semiconductor Trade Statistics and represent a three-month rolling average.

Brian Toohey, president and chief executive officer of the Semiconductor Industry Association, pointed out: “For the global semiconductor industry, May was a strong month and all regions achieved growth, especially in the Americas and the Asia Pacific region. Encouraging growth. Until now, chip sales have been higher than in the same period of last year, indicating that the market's resilience has improved."

By region, chip sales in the Asia Pacific region increased by 5.9% in April from the previous month in April, the Americas region increased by 5.6%, the Japanese market increased by 0.8%, and the European region increased by 0.3%. This is the sales of chips in these four regions. For the first time since September 2012, the total amount has achieved a year-on-year growth. Compared with the same period in 2012, chip sales in the Asia Pacific region increased by 5.8% year-on-year, that of the Americas region by 3%, and that of the European region by 0.1%. However, the Japanese market experienced a sharp decline of 18.4% from the previous quarter, mainly due to the negative impact of the depreciation of the yen. .

Tuha pointed out: "If you want to maintain the growth momentum of the semiconductor industry recently, then you need to implement federal policies to advocate innovation and foster growth. The US Senate recently approved a comprehensive immigration reform bill, which is moving toward the future. An important step is that the House of Representatives should also quickly approve this bill in order to repair the outdated US high-skilled immigration system."
