Han Factory LG recently released a new product at SID 2010. The company has developed a new type of liquid crystal panel using quantum dot LED as a backlight.
Since quantum dots generally have a diameter between a few nanometers and 20 nanometers, the position of the particles often has a band gap and is therefore suitable for luminescent materials.
After the quantum dot LED is used as the backlight, the liquid crystal panel does not need to enhance the color density of the color filter while improving the color purity, so the power consumption of the liquid crystal panel is not improved. At the same time, the color gamut will also increase by 30%. Moreover, by changing the size of the quantum dots, the quantum dot LED illumination wavelength can be controlled.
The LCD panel has a size of 3.2 inches, a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, a dot pitch of 0.087 mm, and a brightness of 450 lumens. At present, LG has not disclosed the materials used in this quantum dot LED backlight and the mass production time of the panel.
