In recent years, semiconductor lighting has gradually become the focus of competition in new areas of energy-saving technologies in various countries. Some semiconductor lighting technologies have been adopted since the Hannover World Expo in Germany in 2000 and the Aichi Expo in Japan in 2005, but their application scope and scale are very limited.

At the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, LED chips appeared in the indoor and outdoor lighting, landscape decoration, signage, information display and other aspects of the Shanghai World Expo Park.

The Expo Theme Pavilion uses water curtain projection, solar and semiconductor lighting integration, lighting control and other technologies to achieve the interaction between the theme building lighting and the surrounding environment. The theme building architectural landscape lighting mainly uses LED technology. In the north-south façade, the aluminum wall of the curtain wall is opened with a square hollow hole that gradually decreases upwards and gradually forms a façade texture. The lighting design uses an aluminum plate opening, and a full-color LED linear floodlight is projected below to form a space for the facade light. sense of rhythm. The ecological green wall of the east and west facades is embedded in swaying plants with randomly arranged full-color LED decorative lamps, reflecting the interaction between the Expo and nature.

The shape of the Expo Culture Center is like the "UFO". It also adopts the concept of night lighting to match the concept of architectural design, highlighting the futuristic sense of "space visitors", focusing on the smooth and smooth shell of the "flying saucer", which is opened with the surface of the casing. The circular window and the inner lighting effect of the central ring corridor create an image of a landmark building that radiates the vitality of the times on the Pujiang River. The illumination mode is mainly to illuminate the side wall and the inner wall of the window through the LED linear type floodlight installed in the lower part of the circular window, thereby generating the effect of internal light transmission. The lower case is raised from the middle to the outside, and the LED floodlight placed on the ground is also used to project light from bottom to top.

The lighting design of the Expo Center mainly uses LED light sources. The interior of a medium-sized conference hall of 2,000 square meters and capable of accommodating 600 people all adopts LED lighting, which realizes the leap from landscape to practicality of this green lighting technology. The exterior lighting of the Expo Center also uses two color-temperature linear LEDs for internal light transmission. Through intelligent control technology, it displays rich and efficient night lighting effects on the building facade.

The Chinese Pavilion, which has received much attention, uses the high color rendering LED floodlights to illuminate the red main structure in the exterior lighting, fully demonstrating the color of the museum's “China Red”.

Zhou Minhao, deputy director of the Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Committee, said in an interview that a total of 1.03 billion LED chips were used in the Expo site. About 80% of the indoor lighting sources in the Expo site use LED green light sources. Incandescent lamps save about 90% of electricity.

"This is the first time that LED lighting has been used in large scale in China's urban neighborhoods, and it is also the world's most concentrated demonstration application of semiconductor lighting technology." Zhou Minhao said.

High cost is still the key to promotion

"LED lighting can be used in ordinary people's homes, but the biggest problem now is that the cost is a bit high. Compared with the general energy-saving lamps, the price is relatively expensive, and it may be mainly used in decoration." Zhou Minhao said that currently in lighting, The government is still promoting energy-saving lamps. In 2008 and 2009, Shanghai promoted 10 million energy-saving lamps. The main promotion is simple energy-saving lamps, such as energy-saving lamps sold in supermarkets, which are relatively simple to produce. In order to solve the price problem of energy-saving lamps, the government will provide certain subsidies in the promotion process.

Zhou Minhao said that the energy-saving effect of simple energy-saving lamps is also considerable. If 10 million lamps are used, they can save 500 million kWh per year.

Li Manping, chairman of the Shanghai Semiconductor Lighting Industry Incubator, believes that the Expo will provide a lot of materials and data for LED color research. These are expected to push LED lighting into the field of home lighting.
