Reflecting on the past two decades of China’s domestic automobile market, Volkswagen's Santana has been a symbol of the industry’s growth over this time. Often regarded as the "God Car," it shares this prestigious title with another iconic model, the Jetta. On December 7, 2016, FAW-Volkswagen unveiled its all-new Jetta, offering a total of nine different configurations. The new car features an updated EA211 1.5L engine, replacing the existing 1.6L engine, with a price range of 7.99 to 13.49 million RMB.
In terms of design, the new Jetta embraces Volkswagen’s latest family aesthetic. The chrome-plated grille seamlessly integrates with the large headlights on either side, while the lower grille extends outward with a cross-bar design, creating a broader visual effect. The headlights incorporate sharp angular designs, enhancing their three-dimensional look and overall appeal.
The new Jetta is available in seven distinct body colors, including Candy White, Reflective Silver, Dark Black, Slate Gray, Sweet Gold, Titanium Gray, and Walnut Brown. Notably, the Titanium Gray and Walnut Brown options represent fresh color choices.
From the side, the new model retains the current design’s essence. Measuring 4501 x 1704 x 1469 mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2604 mm, it is slightly more compact than the previous model. At the rear, the new Jetta draws inspiration from the Bora, featuring U-shaped taillight and trunk lid lines.
Inside, the interior maintains the familiar Volkswagen family simplicity. The central console is equipped with a larger LCD screen, along with USB, SD card, and AUX interfaces. The cabin features a modern circular air vent design, complemented by a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel inspired by the latest Volkswagen styling.
In terms of technology and comfort, the new Jetta includes automatic climate control, seat heaters, tire pressure monitoring, electrically adjustable heated exterior mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlights, parking sensors, and a vehicle stability control system. Additionally, the car offers full leather seating.
Under the hood, the new Jetta comes with a choice of engines. Alongside the 1.4-liter engine, there’s a newly developed 1.5-liter naturally aspirated unit and a 1.4T turbocharged engine for the sportier variant. The 1.4-liter engine delivers a maximum power output of 66 kW and a peak torque of 132 Nm. The 1.5-liter engine replaces the current 1.6-liter model, producing up to 81 kW. The sporty 1.4T engine achieves a maximum power of 96 kW and a peak torque of 225 Nm.
Overall, the new Jetta aims to offer a blend of practicality, comfort, and performance, appealing to a wide range of buyers in China’s competitive compact sedan segment.
