Reflecting on the past two decades of China’s automotive market, the Volkswagen Santana has been a symbol of the industry's growth. Known as the "God Car," it shares this title with another iconic model: the Jetta. On December 7, 2016, FAW-Volkswagen unveiled its all-new Jetta, offering nine distinct models. The vehicle features a newly developed EA211 1.5L engine, replacing the current 1.6L engine, with a price range of 7.99 to 13.49 million RMB.
In terms of design, the new Jetta embraces Volkswagen’s latest family aesthetic. The chrome-plated grille seamlessly connects the headlights on either side, while the lower grille extends outward with a horizontal bar design, creating a wider visual impression. The car's headlights incorporate sharp angles, enhancing their three-dimensional look and overall appeal.
The new Jetta comes in seven different body colors, including candy white, reflective silver, dark black, slate ash, sweet gold, titanium ash, and walnut brown. Notably, titanium gray and walnut brown represent fresh additions to the lineup.
From the side view, the new model retains the styling cues of its predecessor. With dimensions of 4501 x 1704 x 1469 mm and a wheelbase of 2604 mm, it's slightly more compact than the current model. At the rear, the taillights and trunk lid mimic the design language of the new Bora, featuring U-shaped lines.
Inside, the cabin maintains the familiar simplicity of the Volkswagen brand. The central console houses a larger touchscreen display, complete with USB, SD card, and AUX ports. The air vents adopt a modern circular design, while the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel reflects Volkswagen’s latest styling trends.
In terms of features, the new Jetta boasts amenities such as automatic climate control, heated seats, tire pressure monitoring, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, parking sensors, and a vehicle stability control system. The seats are upholstered in full leather.
Under the hood, the new Jetta offers a choice of engines. Alongside the 1.4L unit, there’s a new 1.5L naturally aspirated engine that replaces the current 1.6L variant, delivering 81 kW of power. The high-performance variant features a 1.4T turbocharged engine, producing 96 kW of power and 225 Nm of torque.
This latest iteration of the Jetta aims to combine practicality with cutting-edge technology, ensuring it remains competitive in China’s bustling automotive market.
