1. Before conducting any environmental tests, it's crucial to understand the sample's performance, the required test conditions, and the procedures involved. Familiarize yourself with the technical specifications of the equipment and its control system. Always refer to the user manual to avoid operational errors that could damage the samples or compromise the accuracy of the data.
2. Selecting the appropriate test chamber is important for optimal results. Ensure that the sample size fits within the effective volume of the chamber. For heat-generating samples, the volume should not exceed 10% of the chamber's capacity. For non-heat-generating samples, the limit is 20%. For example, if testing a 21-inch color TV, a one-cubic-meter chamber may suffice when unpowered, but a larger one is needed when the TV is operating due to heat generation.
3. Proper placement of the test samples is essential. Keep them at least 10 cm away from the chamber walls and arrange them on the same plane if possible. Avoid blocking air vents or the temperature and humidity sensors to ensure accurate readings.
4. When using a damp heat test chamber, special attention must be given to the wet bulb gauze. Only approved "wet bulb gauze" made from linen should be used, as it directly affects the accuracy of humidity measurements. The gauze should be 100mm in length, tightly wrapped around the sensor, and positioned 20–30mm away from the humidity cup. It should also be submerged in the water reservoir to maintain consistent moisture levels.
5. If the test requires adding a medium, such as water in a damp heat test chamber, it’s important to use distilled or deionized water with a resistivity of at least 500 ohms. Tap water has lower resistivity, while deionized or distilled water ensures better control over humidity. Fresh water should always be used to prevent contamination from dust and carbon dioxide, which can reduce the resistivity over time.
