What is HTPS?

HTPS is the abbreviation of High Temperature Poly-Silicon, which translates to Chinese meaning "high temperature polysilicon", commonly known as high temperature glass. It is a member of the LCD display family and belongs to the active dot matrix LCD (AcTIve Matrix LCD). Therefore, HTPS is also a type of TFT (Thin Film Transistor; thin film transistor).

HTPS LCD is one of the polysilicon TFT LCD process technologies. The reason why it is called high temperature glass is because in the manufacturing process of the panel, there is a Laser Anneal (laser annealing) process, its temperature exceeds 1000 degrees Celsius. In the early stage of the development of the polysilicon process, in order to transform the amorphous silicon structure of the glass substrate into the polysilicon structure, high-temperature oxidation technology above 1000 degrees Celsius must be used to convert the amorphous silicon structure characteristics into the polysilicon structure. Since ordinary glass cannot be processed at such a high temperature, only quartz glass can be processed in this way, and its price is relatively expensive and the size is relatively small. Therefore, in the early stage of the development of polysilicon manufacturing process, manufacturers took the amorphous silicon route based on cost considerations.

In addition, there is another LTPS LCD (Low Temperature Poly-Silicon; Low Temperature Poly-Si) that also belongs to TFT LCD. The reason why LTPS LCD is called low temperature is because its process temperature is not so high, only about 500-600 degrees Celsius, and it is slightly different according to the process of each manufacturer. The low-temperature polysilicon process uses excimer laser as a heat source. After the laser light passes through the projection system, a laser beam with uniform energy distribution will be generated and projected on the glass substrate of the amorphous silicon structure. After radiated energy, it will transform into a polysilicon structure. Since the entire processing process is completed below 600 degrees Celsius, general glass substrates are applicable. The main feature of low-temperature polysilicon technology is to change the liquid crystal structure to improve the performance of traditional amorphous silicon liquid crystal technology and reduce manufacturing costs. Because LTPS technology can improve the electron mobility by 200 (cm2 / V-sec), it is conducive to miniaturization of TFT components, and improves the aperture ratio of the panel, which increases the display brightness and reduces the power consumption rate. In addition, the low-temperature manufacturing process facilitates the use of glass substrates, which can significantly reduce production costs. The main uses of HTPS and LTPS are different.

HTPS LCD applications
The application field of HTPS is usually used as an enlarged display product. For example, LCD projectors, rear projection TVs, etc. In general, the LCD screen of a mobile phone or a computer is of a direct-view type, that is, a user can directly view the screen and read information. Although HTPS is also a type of TFT, it cannot be directly used for mobile phones or computer screens.

The application of HTPS LCD is roughly divided into the following three types: OHD (Over Head Display), Helmet and LV (Light Valve).

Its main purpose is introduced as follows:

OHD: Head-up display, project the image on the windshield (or transparent glass), used in cars or airplanes, you can get a glimpse of its appearance in many air combat films;

Helmet: This refers to the visualization used exclusively in the helmet of Virtual Reality;
LV: Can be translated into light valve. When the HTPS moves in the LCD projector, because all the light will pass through the HTPS, and the HTPS determines the degree of light penetration, it is called the "valve of light".
