UMC Chairman Hong Jiacong went to Shandong to deploy mainland green energy industry

According to Taiwanese media reports: UMC Chairman Hong Jiacong and ADATA Technology Chairman Chen Libai went to Shandong last week to understand UMC's investment in the local area. Shandong has become UMC's home base for the deployment of green energy in the mainland.

During his inspection in Shandong, Hong Jiacong met with Director of Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology Zhai Luning and Secretary of the Jining Municipal Party Committee Sun Shougang, and Sun Shougang was an important promoter of UMC's investment in LED and solar cell factories in Jining, Shandong.

It is reported that UMC announced in August that it will establish a new business development center within the company, and invest another 1.5 billion yuan to establish a "UMC New Investment Business Company", and began to assess its stride into the LED and solar cell market. Not only has UMC allocated 20% of its 6-inch factory capacity and invested in LED epitaxial technology research and development, the investment and factory construction in Jining, Shandong has also been officially carried out, and the solar cell system factory Yongsheng Energy has been established locally.

UMC's investment in Shandong can be traced back to June this year. In June 2009, the economic and trade delegation of Jining City, Shandong Province visited Taiwan in the middle of the year. Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Sun Shougang went to visit Cao Xingcheng, the honorary chairman of UMC. Under the leadership of Cao Xingcheng, UMC decided to invest in the LED market. At the end of June, through the subsidiary Baolin Technology, it signed an LED investment project contract with Jining High-tech Zone. Shandong Jining also handed over all LED lighting streetlight orders to UMC is responsible for production and manufacturing.

Hong Jiacong ’s other purpose in Shandong this time was to meet with senior executives of Shandong Huaxin Semiconductor, which acquired Qimonda Xi’an R & D Center, to discuss the possibility of future cooperation in the semiconductor market in mainland China. Hong Jiacong and Chen Libai were introduced by Shandong officials to meet with Gao Chuangui, general manager of Huaxin Semiconductor, a semiconductor factory funded by the Shandong government.


The Co-Al Co-doped Barium Titanate Lead-free Piezoelectric Ceramics was successfully developed by Yuhai company through repeated experiments. By Researching the influence of Co-Al Co-doping on the structure and properties of Barium Titanate-based piezoelectric ceramics, the formulation and preparation technology of Barium Titanate-based piezoelectric ceramics were optimized. Yuhai`s BaTiO3 was prepared by conventional solid-phase sintering method, with the piezoelectric constant d33 (>170pC/N), dielectric loss tgδ≤0.5% and mechanical coupling coefficient  Kp≥0.34.

Barium titanate lead-free piezoelectric ceramics are important basic materials for the development of modern science and technology, which was widely used in the manufacture of ultrasonic transducers, underwater acoustic transducers, electroacoustic transducers, ceramic filters, ceramic transformers, ceramic frequency discriminators, high voltage generators, infrared detectors, surface acoustic wave devices, electro-optic devices, ignition and detonation devices, and piezoelectric gyroscope and so on.

Application:  military, ocean, fishery, scientific research, mine detection, daily life and other fields.
