Progress in the frequency control technology of erbium-doped fiber femtosecond optical comb in the National Time Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

The femtosecond optical comb and its application research group at the National Time Service Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has achieved significant progress in the development of erbium-doped fiber femtosecond optical comb frequency control technology. They have successfully demonstrated wide-band (MHz-level) large-scale frequency control using a single control method. This breakthrough not only simplifies the structural design of the optical comb but also enhances its reliability without compromising performance. To achieve this, the research team designed and utilized an electro-optical crystal to regulate the polarization state of the laser. By leveraging the birefringence effect within the entire optical cavity, they managed to realize large-scale frequency control of the optical comb. Compared to other existing technologies, this approach offers at least an order of magnitude greater frequency control range under wideband conditions. It effectively addresses the long-standing challenge of achieving both high bandwidth and a large control range through a single method. The findings were published in the 24th issue of *Optics Letters*, and the technology has been submitted for invention patent protection. The research was supported by several key funding programs, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences' "100-person Plan," the Strategic Pilot Science and Technology Project, the Scientific Research Equipment Development Project, and the "Western Light" talent training initiative.
