Microchip Technology Inc., a global leader in microcontroller, analog, and Flash-based proprietary solutions, has introduced its first step-down switching regulator with a 30V input and 600 mA output capacity — the MCP16301. This high-efficiency DC-DC converter offers an input voltage range of 4V to 30V and an adjustable output voltage from 2V to 15V, achieving up to 95% efficiency. The MCP16301 is available in a compact 6-lead SOT-23 package and features an integrated bridge switch, minimizing the need for external components.

The MCP16301 is ideal for industrial, telecom, consumer electronics, and automotive applications, including set-top boxes, LED lighting, HVAC systems, and metering devices. It efficiently steps down 12V to 24V DC power supplies for PIC microcontrollers and other low-voltage components. Its high-speed peak current mode control ensures rapid response to sudden changes in input voltage or load, making it suitable for demanding power applications.

Additionally, the MCP16301 provides excellent line and load regulation, along with integrated control loop and slope compensation, simplifying the design process and ensuring stable performance. Compared to traditional low-dropout (LDO) regulators, this device reduces power consumption and heat generation, lowering cooling requirements and extending battery life. This makes it an excellent choice for applications with strict power constraints.
