Metal surface pretreatment method

During various heat treatment, machining, transportation, and storage processes, the metal surface undergoes oxidation, forming a thick and uneven oxide layer. Additionally, it is prone to oil contamination and the adsorption of other impurities. Oil stains and certain adsorbents can often be removed using solvents, chemical treatments, or mechanical methods. However, for heavily oxidized metal surfaces where the oxide layer is thick, direct cleaning with solvents or chemical treatments may not suffice; instead, mechanical treatment is usually preferred. Once treated, the metal surface tends to be highly reactive and can easily become contaminated by dust, moisture, and other particles. To prevent this, the treated surface should ideally be coated or assembled as soon as possible to ensure protection. The storage periods for metal surfaces following different treatments vary significantly: - Wet-blasted aluminum alloy: 72 hours - Chromic acid-sulfuric acid treated aluminum alloy: 6 hours - Anodized aluminum alloy: 30 days - Sulfuric acid treated stainless steel: 20 days - Blasted steel: 4 hours - Wet-blasted brass: 8 hours It's important to note that these times represent the maximum allowable periods before additional treatments might be necessary to maintain the surface's integrity and performance. Proper handling and timely processing are crucial to ensure the longevity and quality of the metal surfaces in various applications. For instance, in industrial settings, workers must adhere strictly to these guidelines to avoid costly mistakes.
