Volkswagen and RealWear announced cooperation and began testing Augmented Reality (AR) equipment at 10 Flowserve Auto Repair Centers in the UK, and will further expand to repair centers throughout the UK. It is reported that the technicians at Flowserve Auto Repair Center will embed RealWear's "HMT-1" head-mounted device in a safety helmet or crash cap and connect directly to the technical support center at the UK headquarters in Milton Keynes. Designed for noisy, low-light, narrow or other harsh factory environments, the technician's hands are free to do more.
"HMT-1" can send visual indications to the Flowserve Auto Repair Center remotely, and as a virtual assistant to the field technicians, through the AR image of wiring diagrams and maintenance suggestions, and guide the on-site technicians to carry out complex repairs. Flowserve said that the combination of AR and existing digital technologies, such as screen sharing of diagnostic equipment and remote control of vehicle functions, has become a powerful tool for maintenance. Technicians will be able to simultaneously view vehicle diagnostic reports and consult with other experts.
