The licensing agreement with Philips will enable Evident to manufacture and market LED lighting products that use semiconductor nanocrystals, which will replace products that used silver powder discoloration in the past. Evident Technology intends to immediately release a new line of low-energy LED products and products based on LED technology using semiconductor nanocrystals as silver powder.
“LED lighting extends the life of incandescent lamps and is more efficient than incandescent lamps, but is limited to monotonous colors,†said Clint Ballinger, president of Evident Technologies. “We are very happy to see this license agreement achieved. We use technology to bring more colors to LED lighting products."
The LED chip was originally limited to emitting only monochromatic light. Most current white LED lights use silver powder to turn the blue LED chip into "white" or other colors. However, Evident said that the limited silver powder technology can only achieve a limited range of colors, and semiconductor nanocrystal technology has broken through these limitations.
Founded in 2000, Evident has been researching semiconductor nanocrystal technology for some years and plans to launch commercial LED products based on this technology.
Dave Barnes of Philips' Senior IP Council said, "We have long believed in the market for semiconductor nanocrystal technology, and we look forward to the commercialization of this technology."
Dave Duncan, director of operations at Evident Technologies, said: "LED technology is very urgent to integrate this technology. Our new first-line LED products will put us into the retail market, and they will become the first consumer products based on semiconductor nanocrystals."
