Dell VR Blueprint: Top Windows Headset and Standalone Devices

Dell has a wired Windows Holographic VR headset this year, but it will have a standalone device in the future.

Liam Quinn, the company's chief technology officer and senior vice president, revealed to the UploadVR at CES last week. Quinn said that the company is doing a lot of work on VR Ready PC hardware, researching the renderer refresh rate, required memory capacity and processing power. He also said that the company believes that tracking from the inside out is the future of VR, and Dell is studying it.

Its efforts include Windows Headset based on the HoloLens reference specification and its own tracking prototype from the inside out. "As with any emerging field, innovation is always coming out." Quinn said that Dell's efforts are not just about taking advantage of Microsoft's plans, the company is "very optimistic" about cutting-edge features such as tracking from the inside out.

Asked if Dell will have its own independent VR head-mounted products in the future, he said "absolutely". "You can look forward to our future wireless capabilities."

"I think Dell's implementation and innovation will be unique." This wireless future can also include head-ends that are still connected to platforms such as PCs. "We believe that there are other ways to have modular computing capabilities, not on the head, but it can make the head flexible and free from the constraints of the platform."

As for Dell's Windows Holographic headset, which location is released by Microsoft's floating specification benchmark, Quinn said it will offer a "top experience." He refused to disclose specifications and costs, saying only "the price is right."
