The UNEP Global Efficient Lighting Technology Cooperation Center (GELC), jointly established by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the National Electric Light Source Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Beijing), was unveiled in Beijing on October 31.
GELC aims to provide global technical support and solutions for efficient lighting product application research, quality control, laboratory capacity building, inspection production design training, and the establishment of a global lighting technology and product information sharing platform to promote the development of efficient global lighting technology.
According to reports, in order to promote the progress of high-efficiency lighting technology and give play to China's advantages and role as the world's largest lighting manufacturing base, in September 2011, Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Development Agency and UN Under-Secretary-General Mr. signed an approval letter with the National Electric Light Source Quality Inspection Center (Beijing) to establish the UNEP Global Efficient Lighting Technology Cooperation Center.
