HP officially announces merger of printer and PC business

In recent years, both PCs and printers have become cheaper commercialized. Hewlett-Packard said that the business combination will help the company to promote the strategy to market, strengthen the brand, supply chain and customer support.

The business combination is considered to solve the financial problems currently faced by Hewlett-Packard. HP's printing business is declining. According to the US market research firm IDC, the overall market sales in 2011 only increased by 0.7%, while HP did not grow at all. Printer shipments even fell by 0.7% year-on-year. Canon, Samsung's shipments have all increased.

Foreign media said that HP's merger of PC and printer business provided a good opportunity for Oracle to acquire the company, because after HP split the merged division, Oracle's financial resources will be sufficient to purchase HP. In August last year, the market reported that Oracle intended to acquire HP, but there was no new progress.

For China's Hewlett-Packard, the merger of the two departments will also face the same problems as Hewlett-Packard globally, with the problem of redundancy within the department, while the Chinese business will also undergo some internal adjustments, and the possibility of layoffs will be greater. However, the position of its printing business in the Chinese market will be further consolidated.
