Fairchild Semiconductor has announced a new line of highly integrated video filter/driver products, the FMS6143, FMS6145 and FMS6146. These multi-channel devices are fully integrated, providing video designers with an active solution with multiple design advantages. Compared to typical passive methods, the FMS6143, FMS6145, and FMS6146 dramatically reduce test and design time, reduce inventory, and improve image quality for DVDs, LCDs, TVs, set-top boxes, and other digital consumer electronics. These integrated video filters/drivers also eliminate the need for multiple discrete components. For example, the 6-channel FMS6146 can replace up to 80 components, helping designers reduce the assembly cost of components during manufacturing and reduce board space for video applications by 20%.

When used to replace discrete components of a traditional three-stage passive solution, the four-stage filter/driver of 3, 5, and 6 channels can improve image quality. Compared to passive designs, they provide better in-band characteristics and suppression of band filtering, reducing the noise content of the video signal for better image quality. These devices feature an 8 MHz cutoff frequency and 48 dB rejection band attenuation, meet standard definition (SD) video requirements, and can be used as an anti-aliasing filter at the input or as a reconstructed video filter driver at the output. An internal diode clamp and bias circuit allows the video filter/driver to receive AC or DC coupled input signals. The output of each device can drive AC or DC-coupled single (150 Ω) or dual (75 Ω) coaxial cable loads without the need for expensive output-coupling capacitors, further reducing design costs.

The FMS6143, FMS6145 and FMS6146 are available in SOIC and TSSOP packages, all of which are lead-free devices (Pb-free) that meet or exceed the requirements of the IPC/JEDEC joint standard J-STD-020B and comply with the European Union standards to be effective in 2005.

The new FMS6143, FMS6145 and FMS6146 video filters/drivers expand Fairchild's growing portfolio of data converters, amplifiers, MOSFETs, light for designing set-top boxes, DVD players, HDTVs and other consumer products. Couplers, regulators, LEDs and LED drivers.
